Browser Engineer

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Strong understanding of browser security policies, especially within Google Chrome. 

• Experience with enterprise browser management, including extension control and policy enforcement. 

• Proficiency with the Google Admin Console for managing Chrome environments. 

• Ability to analyze large datasets and draw actionable insights. 

• Excellent communication skills to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders. Experience working with cross-functional teams including IT, security, and communications.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Background in cybersecurity or IT infrastructure. 

• Familiarity with enterprise IT environments and change management processes. 

• Experience conducting user outreach and managing feedback loops.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client is undertaking a critical enterprise-wide initiative to enhance browser security and reduce vulnerabilities stemming from unmanaged browser extensions. With over 4,000 Chrome extensions currently in use across the organization, this role will be instrumental in evaluating, managing, and securing the browser environment to align with enterprise security policies. 

Key Responsibilities include: 

• Browser Policy Enforcement: 

• Analyze and implement enterprise browser policies, with a primary focus on Google Chrome. 

• Lock down browser configurations to prevent unauthorized extension installations. 

• Collaborate with IT security teams to align browser settings with organizational security standards. 

• Extension Management: 

• Audit and assess over 4,000 Chrome extensions for security risks and business necessity. 

• Use the Google Admin Console to export extension data, including installation footprint and usage metrics. 

• Identify and recommend extensions for removal based on risk assessment and usage analysis. 

• Data Analysis & Communication: 

• Interpret extension usage data to determine business impact. 

• Communicate findings to stakeholders and justify extension removal decisions. 

• Partner with the communications team to launch email campaigns and user surveys to gather feedback on extension usage. 

• Stakeholder Engagement: 

• Interface with end users to understand extension use cases and gather input. 

• Work closely with other team and other internal stakeholders to coordinate extension management efforts. Support change management initiatives related to browser security enhancements.
